Practice Emphasis
Mr. Langslet practices civil litigation. The principal emphasis of his practice is the defense of various civil claims. His practice also emphasizes insurance coverage, commercial litigation, and the representation and defense of financial institutions.
Education
Mr. Langslet is a member of the Oregon State Bar. He is admitted to practice in state and federal courts in Oregon, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Claims Court, and the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Langslet attended the University of Oregon and received his B.S. degree in Economics from Portland State University in 1966, where he was a member of the honor society. Mr. Langslet served three years as an infantry officer in the U.S. Marine Corp. Mr. Langslet earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Boalt Hall, University of California, Berkeley in 1972. He received three American Jurisprudence Awards for attaining first in a class, and on graduation was selected for Order of the Coif.
Professional Activities
Mr. Langslet served on the Oregon State Board of Bar Examiners from 1989-91, and was chairman from 1991-1992. He is a member of the Multnomah County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Judicature Society, the Oregon Association of Defense Counsel, and the Defense Research Institute. Recently he was a member of the Federal Practice and Procedure Committee, and acted as Bar Counsel to the Oregon State Bar. Currently Mr. Langslet is a disciplinary trial counsel for the Oregon State Bar.
Representative Cases
- Has recently tried two large construction defect cases to successful defense verdicts.
- Has handled commercial litigation in the trial courts, including successful defense of network systems provider arising out of a computer network upgrade at hundreds of service centers nation-wide. Has also successfully handled the appeal of major cases in the Oregon Court of Appeals and the Oregon Supreme Court.
- As counsel for the Oregon Insurance Guaranty Association (OIGA), Mr. Langslet has tried many cases in state courts, and has successfully handled several appeals in the Oregon Court of Appeals and the Oregon Supreme Court establishing important precedents favorable to the OIGA.
- Represents major financial institutions in state and federal courts, including successfully handling appeals in the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
