Practice Emphasis
Mr. Howe has the breadth of experience that comes from over 25 years of providing individuals and small businesses with general legal representation. He devotes most of his time to estate planning, probate, and trust matters. He also works in the areas of real property, contracts, business law, creditors' rights, and litigation. His areas of expertise include:
- Planning estates of all sizes, including taxable estates
- Estate administration, including representing personal representatives in probate and the trustees of all types of trusts
- Guardianships and conservatorships
- Forming and advising businesses, including limited liability companies, corporations, and partnerships
- Representing buyers and sellers of real property
- Drafting contracts, including buy-sell agreements, leases, employment agreements, and prenuptial agreements
- Litigation, including will contests
Education
Mr. Howe graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Oregon in political science and earned his law degree with high honors from the University of Washington where he was Order of the Coif and Editor-in-Chief of the Washington Law Review.
Mr. Howe is admitted to practice law in Oregon and before the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. District Court of Oregon.
Professional & Community Activities
Mr. Howe is a member of the Oregon State Bar and its Estate Planning and Probate, Debtor/Creditor, Business Law, and Taxation sections. He is also a member of the Estate Planning Council of Portland. He is a past member of the Oregon State Bar/Oregon Society of CPAs Joint Committee and has an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Howe lives in Salem where he is active in community affairs. He served as the chairman of his neighborhood association for five years and as a member of several community planning committees. In 1993, he was awarded the City of Salem's Distinguished Service Award.
